Development of the transmission network

In order to ensure the reliable and safe operation of the electric power system of the Republic of Slovenia in the future, the ELES Company is planning a comprehensive development of the electric power system and transmission network on the basis of visions and scenarios for the future.

It aims to ensure the reliable transmission of electric power to consumers and a quality electric power supply, as well as enabling the uninterrupted operation of the electric power market in the international area.

Siting and Authorisation

ELES is aware that its infrastructure inevitably encroaches upon the environment and life; however, this is achieved prudently following the principles of the sustainable development of the social and natural milieu. Every expansion of the transmission network is strategically planned and invariably includes the provision of an environmental impact assessment as prescribed by law.

Construction

One of our key tasks in maintaining the transmission network is the strategically, responsibly and sustainably planned construction of new transmission lines and substations. New electric power transmission facilities will increase the capacities and reliability of the electric power transmission in the long term.

People and the environment

ELES makes every effort to ensure that its activities exert the minimal impact on people and the environment. The strategic planning behind the development of the electric power network thus always encompasses a legally prescribed environmental impact assessment. Using appropriate measurements and other methodologies, ELES systematically monitors emissions of gas, waste water, noise and vibration, as well as electromagnetic radiation and light pollution at its facilities.

Easements and compensation

Transmission lines restrict the use of land to some extent. Therefore, the ELES Company regulates building permits for facilities, restrictions on the use of the area, maintenance works and permits to enter the plots by concluding agreements on easement with plot owners. The agreement determines the relations between the owner and the ELES Company, as well as the easement compensation.

Interventions in the protection zone

When siting the facilities in the electric power facilities protection zone, the consent authorities determine the conditions and restrictions for the construction, use of facilities and activities in the electric power network protection zone.

Network maintenance

The ELES Company controls the regular and expert maintenance of all existing transmission facilities, on which the current and future reliable of electric power throughout Slovenia is based, from four transmission network infrastructure centres. Transmission network reliability strongly depends precisely on the maintenance quality and the timely offsetting of the consequences of extraordinary events.

Legislation and guidelines

Planning, siting and constructing the electric power transmission network is defined by key acts. Furthermore, implementing regulations, other legal acts and transmission network development plans prepared by ELES and confirmed by the competent ministry need to be considered.
