Development of the transmission network

In order to ensure the reliable operation of the electric power system of the Republic of Slovenia in the future, the ELES Company is planning a comprehensive development of the electric power system and transmission network on the basis of visions and scenarios for the future.

The legal framework for the preparation of the Development Plan includes provisions by the Republic of Slovenia and the EU, provisions of the Resolution on the National Energy Programme and the Resolution on National Development Projects, as well as technical requirements and recommendations by the European Network of Transmission System Operators ENTSO-E.

Taking into account the findings of regular monitoring the transmission network operation and its users (generators, distribution companies and direct consumers), their development plans and the development projections of the electrical power system in Europe, ELES makes estimations of the long-term growth level of electric power consumption in the Republic of Slovenia and scenarios for covering the needs from domestic production resources and the possible import of electrical energy from other electric power systems.

All findings are summed up in the document Network Development Plan 2023-2032, prepared by ELES in accordance with the valid legislation. The Development Plan is prepared every second year for the next 10 years. The Development Plan is approved by the minister in charge of the energy sector.
