The book The Life of Electric Power in Independent Slovenia

On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the National Committee of the International Council on Large Power Systems (CIGRE), a special book entitled The Life of Electric Power in Independent Slovenia 65/25 was published.

Mag. Krešimir Bakič,  coordinator for the Director of Technical Support and Standards, and Dr. Drago Papler described the rich 65-year-long operation of CIGRE in Slovenia and 25 years of the CIGRE National Committee in the book. The book also includes many interesting things from the electric power industry – from the beginnings of electrification in the 20th century and the introduction of CIGRE, through the establishment of the organization of electricity distributors – CIRED, to the period of development of both organizations and all their activities until 2017. The activities of the association also include rich publishing activity and the organization of the Day of Slovenian Electric Power Engineers. The book also states all the recipients of the international awards of the Paris CIGRE and national awards.

How was the International Council on Large Power System CIGRE even created? As described by mag. Bakič, it was founded in Paris in 1921 as a non-profit association to promote the transfer of knowledge among electric power experts, and it was created as a kind of a small Entente. The winners of the First World War connected in the desire to exchange professional perspectives and practices in the electric power industry. Interesting fact: pressing issues of that time were mostly frequency, as Europe had 12 different frequencies and it only experienced harmonization to 50Hz after the Second World War.

CIGRE
