Change of Gate Closure Time (GCT) to 30 Minutes Before Delivery for Cross-Border Intraday Trading

In line with European regulation (Regulation (EU) 2024/1747), an important change is being introduced in intraday electricity trading. Starting with delivery on 14 January 2026, a 30-minute Gate Closure Time (GCT) will apply for cross-border trading on all Slovenian borders, except on the border with Hungary, where due to technical limitations on the Hungarian side, the current regime will temporarily remain in place.
This change, reducing the current gate closure time from 60 minutes to 30 minutes before delivery, applies to ELES and thirteen European transmission system operators that are ready for implementation. Other operators have requested derogations, so the change will be introduced later for them.
The shortening of the gate closure time is part of a coordinated European approach, aimed at enabling more efficient cross-border intraday trading and supporting further integration of the European electricity market.
